I only saw part of Oprah's show today and very little of Tyra's, but what I saw was good.  It is too bad takes something like a celebrity to bring a revived interest in something as important as teen dating violence.   

As I am working I decided to watch the Dr. Phil episode about domestic violence.   Overall I think it is doing a pretty good job, but it does concern me, that while he seems to be trying to tell the woman that she should not stay because she does not deserve the abuse, it also almost sounds like he is blaming her for not believing she deserves any better.  As someone who facilitates BIP's, I can see guys who watch this show take that kind of message away--and I am afraid probably some women as well.  Blaming is all too common as it is, I think we need to be more careful. 

This blog is being started to share information about issues, trends, practices and the like regarding batterer's intervention programming in this country, in Missouri, and to some extent also globally as well. This is in part because I have developed a major interest in this issue, but also because I am starting my own program in the Kansas City area, after facilitating BIP groups in St. Joseph for almost two years. In this blog I will also share general domestic violence information, including information about what is being done in the Kansas City area.
